What’s in Your Braking System
When you press the pedal, the master cylinder pushes brake fluid through the lines to calipers or wheel cylinders at each wheel. These clamp pads against rotors (or push shoes against drums), turning your car’s motion into heat. Your anti-lock brake system (ABS) monitors wheel speed and pulses the brakes to prevent skidding in an emergency stop.

How often should brakes be replaced?
Brake pads commonly last anywhere from 30,000 to 70,000 miles, depending on your vehicle, pad type, and driving habits. Stop-and-go traffic and towing wear them faster. A quick inspection at every tire rotation keeps you ahead of it.
Why are my brakes squeaking?
Many pads have a built-in wear indicator that squeals when they’re getting thin. Squeaks can also come from glazed pads, dust, or moisture. If it’s a grinding sound instead, have them checked right away.
Do I need new rotors every time I replace my pads?
Not always. If your rotors are within the manufacturer’s thickness spec and aren’t warped or deeply grooved, they may be reused or resurfaced. We’ll measure them and let you know.
What does a brake fluid flush do?
Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time, which lowers its boiling point and can corrode internal parts. A flush replaces old fluid with fresh fluid to keep your pedal firm and your system protected.
Why does my steering wheel shake when I brake?
