Respond Now is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded in 1969 that serves low-income individuals and families in the most notoriously underserved twenty-two suburban neighborhoods of Chicago. Our mission is to battle poverty and food insecurity in any way we can, whenever we can because those living in poverty have far too few allies.
Respond Now exists to provide immediate relief to residents of the Chicago south suburbs who are in need while maintaining their dignity and affording respect. We do this by:

  • Helping people through their temporary emergencies with financial assistance.
  •  Providing food to families and individuals in need.
  • Providing sound referrals and counseling for other needed services.

Respond Now’s dedicated and trained staff are exceptional at what they do, but we can always use more help. Like many non-profits, volunteers help form our organization’s foundation, and a strong tradition of community involvement has been there since the beginning of our over-50-year history. We accept help in a range of critical tasks, whether that means filling bags in the food pantry, reading to children in the Children’s Reading Room, working in the Clothing Boutique, assisting with general office work, helping with computer tasks, stocking shelves, or setting up special events.
